The practitioner then palpates the sub-talar joint and positions the patient in their most functional position, which is usually in or about subtalar neutral, utilizing the principles of tri-planar motion. The patient should remain in this position for approximately two minutes while the orthotic blanks cool, form and mold to the shape fo the feet. Remove the patient from the molding stand, completing the molding process. The orthotic is now a custom mold of the patient’s foot. If an orthotic is incorrectly molded, it may be remolded by simply reheating and repeating the process.
